Most injuries involving the head in soccer are caused by head contact with other objects and not by the impact of the soccer ball. This contact can be:

  • player to player
  • player to ground
  • player to goalpost
  • player to ball
  • player to equipment

  1. keep your eye on the ball.
  2. place your body so that your forehead will meet the ball.
  3. take a comfortable stance with knees bent.
  4. keep your eyes open.
  5. keep your mouth closed.
  6. keep your chin tucked.
  7. keep a rigid neck.
  8. use your arms for balance
  9. contact the ball with the forehead.
  10. your legs should propel your body from your waist to head the ball.
  11. your neck should be kept rigid.
  12. follow through toward the target.
  13. once you head the ball, regain your balance.
